Adding your signature automatically to each post

Katie from Persnickety Pickles shared a link on how to create a signature on her blog the other day. It's so cool! Katie, you're the best!

I did a bit of searching around and found out you can add a bit of code in the main HTML of your entire blog, which will allow your signature to post automatically each time you publish.

I actually found a couple of tutorials on how to enter the code: one at Geek Blogger and another at Kevin and Amanda.com.

Before you complete the steps to add this code, you will need to upload your signature image to a free hosting site (like imgur or Photobucket).

Now, to delve in the HTML! If you haven't done this before, don't worry. You can always preview what you have done to see if it worked before saving and changing your template.

First, head into the "Edit HTML" link, located under the "Design" tab on your Blogger page. Now you can see the HTML of your entire blog.

Sometimes, you will need to check the "Expand Widget Templates" box when adjusting code...you will need to do this in the tutorials above.

Now, the tutorials will tell you to find certain lines of code. This will take FOREVER, unless you use your computer's "find" feature.

With my Mac, I hit Command+F. Then, I just enter part of the code the tutorial wants you to find. It will highlight the code for you...

now you can enter the new code required.

When I first started trying new things with code, I was sooo nervous I would mess up my template! But you can click the blue "Preview" button to see if your code worked or not.

This will take you to a screen preview of your blog.

If the code didn't work, you can hit "Clear Edits" back in the HTML editor.

And if it works, you can Save! There are tons of really cool things you can do within the HTML of your blog and countless tutorials out there.

Hope you guys are having a nice weekend! :)

  2. Thank you for all these tutorials. Had a bit of a problem with the signature. I couldn't find the right place to put the code in so it is hanging out way at the bottom of the page. This is loads of fun, except it has gotten rather late and it is time to turn in and save this tech stuff for another time.

I am having trouble with this signature thing though, but I am going to step away from it and try it again later!
