Happy Friday friends! I have tried and tried to get on here but, no luck! It has been wild at my school. We are still busy prepping for our school-wide celebration of learning (it will be this Wednesday) and it has been SO busy. I'm sooo glad to be here now...
...happily blogging in my PJs! So. Time to get to business. I had some very sweet requests regarding the CRAFT headers. A few kind readers asked about sharing the traditional CAFE headers, which I am happy to do (you can see a preview below):
And my lovely bloggy friend Stephanie (from 3rd Grade Thoughts) wrote to me (awhile back, I'm sorry again Stephanie!!!) and told me how she was using CRAFT in her class, with the T modified to include vocabulary. (You must stop by and visit her blog, she has wonderful printables, as well as many ideas/resources for the Daily 5).
I thought it was just an incredible idea and promised to share the sign with other readers as well. Thank you Stephanie for sharing the idea and for being so patient about the sign! Here's a preview of this CRAFT variation:

If you would like to use any of these variations, they are all together within one file below...just choose and print the desired pages.

Thank you so much for stopping by my poor neglected blog! I hope to have some semblance of a blogging life back soon--did I tell you that we are on April vacation in one more week?! 5 more days, woohoo!! 'Course I'm guessing many of you lucky teachers are out of school a bit sooner than we are...anyone care to share a bit of a countdown? Is it too early for that??

Thanks for the headers and paper! I just got my CAFE book in the mail! I will be reading it this weekend. We are finally able to do the Daily 5 and the CAFE at my school. I know we are a little behind, but I am SUPER excited to try everything out! Have a great week Kristen!
ReplyDeleteYour stuff is way too cute! I can't wait to hear about the Celebration of Learning!!

These are just beautiful to look at! Sheesh!... you are one talented lady!

These are great! Thank you. My only difference is the "A". I use it to stand for Awareness: I understand how text is organized. I like the idea of using the T in CRAFT for terms/vocabulary. Expanding vocabulary is a big focus at my school. Again, thanks for the beautiful signs. :)
ReplyDeleteLove how cute these headers are! I have been using CAFE in my third grade class for three years now and can't wait for the update to my board next year! What program do you use to create these types of headers?
ReplyDeleteJust getting started with my classroom personal teaching blog (have a classroom one but for my parents and students) and am glad that I found this :)

Love your idea! Thanks so much for sharing. I just started using D5 this year in my classroom and it has become my favorite part of the day! Your ideas are amazing! You must put a lot of time and effort into your classroom and kids!
ReplyDeleteI am new to your blog, so I may have missed the answer to the question I am asking. I am seeing your posting about CRAFT. Is CRAFT your idea as a variation on CAFE, or is there research from someone (such as the Sisters themselves) which supports this. My principal wants us to implement the D5 and CAFE next year, but after seeing this in Pinterest, I am wondering if CAFE has officially changed?
ReplyDeleteI just put up your cafe board yesterday. I'll add the Terms and Vocabulary next. Thank you so much. I agree with those above who say you are amazing!

Thank you for sharing. I am a new teacher trying to figure things out and your blog is amazing!
ReplyDeleteIf possible could you take a picture of how your board looked at the end of the year with all your strategies? I also teach 4th and did CAFE this year. I'm just wondering if I missed some stuff and want to plan ahead for next year. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHuge thank you for sharing these! I adore them!!
ReplyDeleteKristen-
ReplyDeleteI have been blog stalking you for quite some time and as I get ready for a new year, I am dying to use some...ALL...of your things, BUT I would also like to create some things of my own for other areas. Can you tell me what font you used on your CRAFT board? I LOVE it!!! Oh,and thank you so much for your willingness to share... :)
Thanks Rhonda! It's My Own Topher, by Kevin and Amanda fonts :)
DeleteThank you! I now have ALL of their fonts after one of your blog posts mentioned them...my classroom will ROCK because of you!
DeleteHi Kristen-
ReplyDeleteI am a Junior High teacher who feels that older kids also love all of these beautiful decorations and motivational ideas you have come up with. I would love to know how you make these amazing signs? Do you use Photoshop or something else? Desperately wanting to know (before I start up again in September). You are amazing!
I love these so much!! Thank you! Do you have any coordinating Daily 5 signs in the works? I'd love a matching set!
ReplyDeleteLike Lauren, I would love a Daily 5 matching set, too! Any plans to make one? Thanks so much for sharing all your great ideas!
ReplyDeleteI have a question and it is pretty silly. I made the CRAFT letters for the board in my room. I saw that you did make the lined pages for what goes underneath, but do you have what it is that your class writes under each one. I saw the layout the sisters made for CAFE, I just wasn't sure if you had one for CRAFT. Thanks so much for your time! :)
ReplyDeleteMy Life as a 4th Grade Teacher and Kristen, I was getting ready to ask the same question :)
ReplyDeleteKristen-
ReplyDeleteI am a first year teacher and the other 4th grade teachers have a CAFE board in their room so I feel as though I should as well. I have your CRAFT pdf downloaded but saw that you have just the CAFE one as well. It says they should all be in the same file so I re-downloaded it but still don't seem to see the E part of it?! Am I missing it somewhere?! Thank you so much for this wonderful freebie! I'd love to use it in my room because it goes along with my color scheme perfectly! Thanks in advance!

Allison,
DeleteI know this email was for Kristen, but I thought I'd see if I can help. When I first opened the file I did a double take for the E too. It's on page 6 (right after the T). Then the expanded vocabulary sign is on page 12.
Hope that helps,
Monica
Thanks Monica! I just wrote her an email yesterday morning, but you were even more specific than I was--thanks!! :)
DeleteI have my CRAFT board up and ready (I teach third grade and have been using CAFE). I am having some trouble figuring out how to type on the lined paper while keepign the lines in tact (if I change teh font/color) the line changes as well and if I type it just moves the line forward. If there is an easy fix, would you mind sharing? Thanks SO much!
ReplyDeleteI put up my CRAFT board for the beginning of the year. It looks great and keeps us moving in the right direction. Thanks so much for these...they are perfect. I linked to you in my blog. I listed it as the number one favorite thing in my room! Please take a look and I would love to have you as a member!
